Overall, Cleave spins a good story but it fails to pack the powerful punch that it could have.

This novel was broached some interesting viewpoints and topics. Cleave writes in a simplistic, yet creative way, utilizing humour and wit frequently. The complex problems that are raised in Little Bee are pertinent issues and Cleave is definitely writing about something more than a Coronation Street special. Regardless, there are two prominent limitations with this novel. The first is the story's inability to go "beyond the pale"; that is, it does not have the substantial backplot and development to end where Cleave chooses to end it and therefor, the impact of the story's message suffers somewhat (at least for me). Second, the book's shameless, condescending promotional rhetoric on the inseam of the novel's jacket really buggered me off. I thought that maybe it was a comical satire of shameless promotion tactics, but then it turned out that the author was dead serious about his warning. Do I really need to be told that telling a story's ending to prospective readers is a major faux pas in the realm of book discussion? Seriously? Thanks Mr. Cleave for that enlightening tidbit.
